Frequently Asked Questions

Please read my frequently asked questions, I will hopefully have updated this with any questions that I have not answered so if you have a question please email me and I will answer your question and update the web site!

How Large a marquee will I require?

This all depends on how you wish to use your marquee. If standing room is all that is required then 6 sq. ft. or 0.5 sq. m is a legal minimum and should never be exceded. You should deduct from this any place within the marquee which can not be used for standing i.e any area with tables and chairs or a stage. A more comfortable rule of thumb is 10sq ft per guest this gives people more room to move about.

Most people though would like there guests to sit down you should allow at least 15sq ft per person. This is based on 5' round tables. If you use trestle tables or larger or smaller round tables you will need more space.

How much lighting will I need in the marquee

Much less than you think! I usually recommend two chandeliers per bay of a 40' wide marquee, i.e in a 60'x40' = 2 this will provide more than enough lighting to see where you are going. It is advisable to have a dimmer attached to the chandeliers because most people find it too bright for an atmospheric party. Alternativly uplighters provide a more atmospheric feel but give off much less light (less suitable for dining)

An alternative to chandeliers are up lighters, metal boxes placed on the floor which point up to illuminate the roof which adds a more subtle light into the marquee. I often suggest up lighters and candles on the table (please ask whoever has provided the table cloths).

Are marquees warm enough for Winter use?

Q: I want to hold my event during the Winter. Can you assure me that a marquee event will be comfortable enough?

A: Marquee design and heating systems are very sophisticated nowadays, and ensure that a marquee can offer the ideal event environment all year round. Our Winter business has grown and grown, in particular our Christmas Parties, as our clients come to realise that Winter outdoor events are perfectly feasible.
